We’re back to talking about “Is Cosmetology the Right Career for Me?” There are many of you who are just plain bored with your job. Do you find that the best part of your workday is lunch time? Do you feel as though, no matter what you do… you just can’t seem to get ahead in life? Are you a creative person stuck in a cubicle?
For a minute think about how your life would be if you could do what you love and love what you do?
Ready for a change? Maybe? But your’re wondering…
Is it really OK to change careers just because I’m bored?
The answer is a resounding “YES!” There’s no better time than now to take control of your future. Envision where you would like to be 5 years from now and become the director in the movie of your life.
Age is irrelevant. Passion matters. History is full of stories of people who broke out of the box and succeeded when they changed directions and followed their passion in life. Do you think Clint Eastwood has to work? No. He works because he loves what he does and it’s the work, deadlines, time tables, and projects that keep him succeeding.
Colonel Sanders was in his sixties before his life took a dramatic turn for the better. Shakespeare never knew the impact of his work, but his passion to tell stories determined his destiny to become one of the greatest authors of all time.
It’s not your age, it’s your mindset. Changing careers is never easy, as there are a lot of uncertainties that come along with change, but changing careers as you get older is a bigger decision.
You are not fresh out of college anymore and you are already professionally mature, so it’s understandable if you hesitate about completely changing your surroundings because you’re bored. However, sticking with an unrewarding career just because you chose it when you were 20 something, is not productive. Starting a new career allows you to discard everything you dislike about your previous career and to build a new career using your experience to-date and and adding the things you are passionate about.
Choose a new career that meshes well with what you enjoy. This will motivate you to work harder, which leads to better productivity and more options for your future.
While some career paths offer plenty of room to grow, others are more limited. If you are eager to create a career that does more than just give you the money necessary to pay your bills, you must carefully consider what you are looking for in a new career:
- more free time or a more flexible schedule to allow you to spend more time with your family and friends;
- more creative or entrepreneurial opportunities; or
- more career options.
