I haven’t forgotten the moms out there who are looking for a way to re-join the work force. One of my favorite sayings is the one about Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, a couple of movie stars who danced beautifully together. Someone once commented about what a wonderful dancer Fred Astaire was and a thoughtful woman replied, “What about Ginger Rogers? She did everything Fred did, except she did it backwards and on high heels!”
I bet many of you moms feel the same way – juggling family activities and responsibilities and at the same time having the desire to help the family financially. For you single moms – you don’t have much choice – you have to bring home the bacon and cook it and then do the dishes before you go to bed.
Returning to school may be on your mind so that you can find a career you can enjoy and one that will still be flexible when you have family responsibilities.
There are many intimidating factors about returning to school – one of them is financial. That is why grants for single moms and other moms are so valuable. They provide the cash you need to attend college, university or other educational facility without the need to pay this money back.
We would encourage you to visit our Financial Aid page to get some answer about how you will be able to fund your education. The next step would be to come into AAC and talk with our enrollment counselor to discuss the type of financial aid that would be best for you. We have helped many single moms returning to school as well as those who have been recently unemployed. There are various scholarships, grants and forms of funding that you’ll be introduced to.
On your own you might look within your community to churches, synagogues, retail stores and a number of corporations looking to make a better world. You may feel rusty about returning to college, but this is often due to a lack of confidence. You will gain not only new knowledge and skills but also connect with others socially that are trying to improve their careers and family circumstances. What a wonderful lesson also to give to your children as they see you taking on this challenge.
Next week we’ll talk about the strategies for making a return to school less stressful for the family. If you’re interested in learning more about a financially rewarding career in Cosmetology or one of the other specialties, click here, and send us an e-mail with your questions.
